Supervision facilities

Each lecturer has a working room that is also used for consultation with students related to lectures, theses or other learning needs.

Information and communication technology

The information system in FPIK UB is supported by intranet and internet networks through fiber-optic networks, cable networks, and wireless networks. The bandwidth used by the university is 5.2 Gbps shared for all faculties with a dynamic sharing pattern using a load balancing mechanism. An internet speed test at FPIK UB resulted in 827.1 Mbps for download and 479.5 Mbps for upload. All academic staff and students can take advantage of this internet facility to support the learning process, access scientific references (e-book, articles, monographs), and share information via mailing lists to support and improve academic activities.

The followings are efforts to improve the internet network at FPIK UB in 2021:

  • Fiber optic cover with existing speed up to 869 Mb/s (April 2021)
  • 100% fiber network coverage between buildings
  • 50 access points throughout the FPIK area to reach 100% coverage
  • IT support devices with good standards (routers, manageable switches, and access points)

  • GAPURA is an integrated service information system portal that provides easy access to information and services for all UB Information System service users. GAPURA’s access is based on Single Sign-On, allowing users to have one login account to access UB information Systems according to their access rights. Various information systems in UB are gradually integrated into GAPURA.

Figure 1. GAPURA UB Application Services

Students can access academic and student-related services from SIAM. After login into SIAM, students can view their biodata, arrange Study Plan Cards, view Study Result Cards, and view class schedules. Meanwhile, services for lecturers are available through SIADO to organize lectures, guidance, and staffing. GAPURA also has an application connected to a Google application called G-Suite, including email, drive, calendar, classroom, and docs. Google Classroom is an online application provided by Google to facilitate the teaching and learning process. The cooperation of UB and Google allows the academic community of UB to access Google Classroom with a larger capacity. All information system services integrated into GAPURA can be accessed 24/7 through internet networks inside and outside UB. Figure 1 shows a user interface of GAPURA UB application services based on the access rights of user login.

Figure 2. GAPURA Mobile Display

Learning resources include teaching materials and teaching media. Teaching materials are prepared well before the first meeting of each semester. Teaching materials include Semester Lesson Plans, modules, videos, presentation files, etc. Modules and PowerPoint presentations are distributed through Google Classroom, Google Docs, Spada, and VLM UB. Videos are shared through Youtube. Lecturers use Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, QGIS, QM for Windows, and R.

Access to learning resources

The reading room is located in Building A on the 1st floor, with facilities including a diverse collection of books on Fisheries and Marine Sciences. There is a university library managed by the university with good facilities such as reading rooms, , discussion rooms, digital catalogs, and e-journals (Science Direct and Proquest). Students can come to the faculty library to borrow some books or visit the digital library like:

1. UB Digital Library

UB has subscribed to several leading international journal publishers. This allows all members of UB, including those from FPIK, to access journals via the UB account by logging into https://lib.ub.ac.id page. Some subscribed publishers are:

  1. Proquest
  2. J-Stor
  3. Emerald Insight
